Bringing Help & Hope After Typhoon Tino
An update from Dave Taylor, SGC Director of Global Strategy & Development…
Last November, Typhoon Tino swept across the central Philippines, bringing powerful winds, heavy rain and widespread flooding. The typhoon made landfall across several central islands including Negros Occidental, where our brothers and sisters at His Dwelling Christian Church (HDCC) in Isabela, Philippines are located.
In the aftermath of the storm, several families within the HDCC church community had been particularly affected. One family had suffered a complete loss of their home and belongings, while other families experienced severe damage to their homes, crops and sources of income, leaving many in urgent need of support and basic necessities.
By God's grace and provision, Sovereign Grace Churches were able to extend financial assistance, allowing the church to respond to the practical needs of their members, including the provision of rice, groceries, drinking water and household supplies.
A significant part of the relief effort was directed beyond the church walls too. With the heart to serve the wider community, help was also extended to surrounding communities. These residents were invited to the church, where they received food packs and assistance, and more importantly, an opportunity for the Gospel to be shared – a moment of hope in the midst of disaster.
For the church members themselves, this relief brought great encouragement to them, reminding the congregation of God’s provision and faithfulness during challenging times. Many expressed deep gratitude, acknowledging how their faith and sense of community had been strengthened.
We are so grateful to God for the generosity of our churches and for the privilege of being able to support our brothers and sisters in the Philippines in a time of need. Please continue to pray for the people affected by Typhoon Tino as they continue to recover and rebuild their lives, and especially that the Gospel would continue to go forward through the local church. We give thanks to the Lord that even in the midst of disaster and loss, it is a joy to see the body of Christ caring for one another, demonstrating Christ's love, compassion and faithfulness across countries and cultures.
